Childcare

Childcare in the Calculation of Financial Support for Vocational Training Assistance (Berufsausbildungsbeihilfe) to Finance Vocational Training (Ausbildung) in Germany 2025

Additional supplements for childcare are granted within the framework of Vocational Training Assistance (BAB) to finance Vocational Training (Ausbildung), when the apprentice is caring for their own child and thereby incurs additional costs.

Supplement for Childcare

Apprentices who care for their own child during their vocational training (Ausbildung) can apply for a supplement to the Vocational Training Assistance (BAB). The supplement is intended to cover the additional costs for childcare during the training period. These costs may arise, for example, from attending a daycare center, home care, or other childcare services.

Requirements for the Supplement

To receive the childcare supplement, certain requirements must be met:

  • The apprentice must have custody of the child.
  • The child must live in the same household as the apprentice.
  • Actual childcare services that incur costs must be utilized.

Amount of the Supplement

The amount of the childcare supplement is based on the actual costs incurred for care. Up to a maximum of 130 Euros per month per child is taken into account. The exact amount is determined based on the submitted evidence by the Employment Agency.

Proof of Childcare Costs

For the application of the supplement, apprentices must submit the following proofs:

  • Proof of custody (e.g., child’s birth certificate)
  • Registration certificate confirming the joint household
  • Invoices or receipts for the incurred childcare services
  • Care agreement with a daycare center, nanny, or other care institutions

Additional Support

In addition to the childcare supplement, apprentices with children can also apply for further support, such as the child allowance or benefits from the education and participation package. These benefits can be granted in addition to the BAB and help to reduce the financial burden of raising children.

Changes in the Care Situation

If there are changes in the care situation while receiving the BAB, for example, due to a change in care facility or changes in care times, this must be reported to the Employment Agency immediately. The amount of the supplement will be recalculated in such cases.

Important Notes

Apprentices with children should carefully compile and submit all required documents in a timely manner to avoid delays in processing the application. If there are uncertainties about eligibility requirements or the necessary proofs, consulting with the Employment Agency can be helpful.
