Purpose of the Proofs
The proofs from the training institution demonstrate that the applicant is enrolled in an eligible Vocational Training (Ausbildung). They are necessary to ensure that the training indeed leads to a qualified degree and that the conditions for state funding are met. Furthermore, the proof serves to document the start and the expected duration of the Vocational Training (Ausbildung).
Required Documents
The required proofs from the training institution typically include the following documents:
- Enrollment Certificate: For school-based Vocational Training (Ausbildung) or advanced training at vocational schools, a certificate of enrollment is required. This certificate must provide information about the start of the training, the type of training, and its duration.
- Proof of Eligibility for Funding: Many training institutions also issue a certificate confirming that the training is eligible for funding. This certificate usually contains information on whether the training meets legal requirements.
- Class Schedule or Attendance Proof: A proof of the extent of the training, such as a class schedule, may be required to demonstrate that the applicant is undertaking the training full-time.
- Proof of Internships: If the Vocational Training (Ausbildung) includes a mandatory internship, a proof of this is required. This proof must indicate the duration and nature of the internship.
Eligible Training Institutions
Funding is available for training at state-recognized vocational schools, trade schools, second-chance schools, and inter-company training institutions. Certain private training institutions may also be eligible for funding if they are state-recognized and the training leads to a legally regulated degree. Training institutions abroad are eligible for funding if the training is deemed equivalent to a recognized training in Germany.
Regulations on Training Duration
Generally, Bafög funding is provided only for the regular duration of the training. Therefore, the proofs from the training institution must also specify the expected duration of the Vocational Training (Ausbildung). Funding beyond the standard duration is only possible under certain conditions, such as severe personal reasons or prolonged illness.
Extension of Funding
If the training extends beyond the regular duration for valid reasons, a new proof from the training institution is required. This proof must confirm the continuation of the training and the expected new completion date. Such cases often occur in advanced training or dual Vocational Training (Ausbildung) with additional qualifications.
Proofs for Dual Training
For dual Vocational Training (Ausbildung) taking place in both the company and vocational school, specific proofs are required. These include:
- A training contract concluded with the training company.
- A certificate from the vocational school confirming enrollment.
- Proofs of company training periods and school times.
These proofs ensure that both the company and school components of the dual Vocational Training (Ausbildung) are eligible for funding.
Proof for Stays Abroad
If part of the training takes place abroad, a special proof is required, confirming that the stay abroad is part of the regular Vocational Training (Ausbildung). This proof must be issued by the domestic training institution and include details about the purpose and duration of the stay abroad. Only then can Bafög be granted for stays abroad.
Procedure for Submitting Proofs
The proofs from the training institution must be submitted in original form or as a certified copy to the competent Bafög office. In some cases, a digital submission is also sufficient if the office expressly permits this. The proofs should be submitted well in advance of the application deadline, as incomplete applications cannot be processed and this may lead to delays in approval.
Appeal in Case of Rejection Due to Missing Proofs
If the application is rejected due to missing or incomplete proofs, the applicant can file an appeal. The appeal should be well-founded and all required proofs should be submitted retrospectively. In some cases, it is sufficient to provide an additional confirmation from the training institution to demonstrate the eligibility for funding.
