Need for the Follow-up Application
A granted BAB application generally applies for twelve months. After this period, the entitlement automatically ends. To continue receiving the Vocational Training Allowance (Berufsausbildungsbeihilfe), a follow-up application must be submitted. This application serves to check the requirements for ongoing support and to continue the BAB benefit.
Application Deadline
The follow-up application should be submitted at least two months before the current approval period expires. This gives the Employment Agency sufficient time to process the application, ensuring there is no interruption in payment. If the application is submitted late, the new funding only begins from the month of application.
Required Documents
For the follow-up application, current evidence is again required, including:
- Proof of the training place (e.g., extension of the training contract, if necessary)
- Current income statements of the parents or spouse
- Proof of Vocational Training Compensation (Ausbildungsvergütung)
- Rental agreement or proof of rent payments if the living situation has changed
The documents should be submitted completely to avoid delays in processing.
Processing Time for the Follow-up Application
The processing time for a follow-up application typically takes four to six weeks. If documents are missing, the processing time may be extended as the Employment Agency requests additional information. To ensure timely payment, it is important to submit the application early.
Changes in the Follow-up Application
All changes that have occurred since the last approval period must be indicated in the follow-up application. These include:
- Changes in the income of the trainee or parents
- Changes in living situation (e.g., moving to another apartment)
- Changes in the training relationship (e.g., extension of the training period)
Approval Notice and Continued Payment
After reviewing the follow-up application, the Employment Agency will issue a new approval notice. The continued payment of the Vocational Training Allowance (Berufsausbildungsbeihilfe) will be made from the month of application for a further period of typically twelve months.
Important Notes
To avoid an interruption of the BAB benefit, the follow-up application should be submitted on time and completely. If there are uncertainties about the required documents, the Employment Agency offers consultations. Changes that occur during the new approval period must…
