Parents' Income Statements

Required Documents: Parents’ Income Statements for Vocational Training (Ausbildung) Allowance in Germany 2025

The income statements of the parents are required as the parents' income is considered when calculating the Vocational Training (Ausbildung) Allowance (BAB). They serve to determine whether the income is below the exempt thresholds.

Importance of Income Statements

The income statements of the parents are crucial for determining the applicable total income of the household. Since parents are generally obligated to support their children during their first Vocational Training (Ausbildung), their income is taken into account when calculating the BAB.

Required Documents

The following proof of the parents’ income must be submitted:

  • Pay slips for the last three months
  • Annual tax assessment
  • Certificates for other income (e.g., rental income, capital gains)

If the parents are self-employed, a current profit and loss account or the tax assessment is required.

Exemptions for Parental Income

When considering the income, exemptions for parents and other dependents residing in the household are deducted. This ensures that only the income exceeding the necessary needs is considered.

No Consideration for Separated Parents

If the parents live separately, only the income of the supporting parent is considered. Corresponding proof of the maintenance obligation or the separation is required.

Submission of Missing Documents

If the income statements are missing at the time of the application, the Employment Agency can set a deadline for submission. Without complete proof, the application cannot be processed.

Special Regulations

In certain cases, such as when the trainee is over 25 years old or married, the income of the parents is not taken into account. In such cases, other proofs are required.

Important Notes

The parents should ensure that the required documents are submitted completely and correctly to avoid delays in the processing of the BAB application.
