Financial Situation

Financial Situation as a Prerequisite for Vocational Training Grants (Berufsausbildungsbeihilfe) to Finance Vocational Training (Ausbildung) in Germany 2025

The financial situation affects the eligibility for Vocational Training Grants (Berufsausbildungsbeihilfe - BAB). Factors taken into account include the trainee's own income, the income of parents and spouses, as well as existing assets. If the income falls below the established need rates, BAB may be granted.

Housing

The entitlement to vocational training assistance (BAB) is significantly influenced by the apprentice's housing situation. Independent living outside the parental home increases the amount of support, while residing in the parental home results in only a limited entitlement.

Personal Income

The trainee’s personal income, especially vocational training compensation and income from part-time jobs, is considered when calculating the vocational training assistance (BAB) and can reduce the amount of support.

Parents' Income

The parents' income is taken into account when calculating the Vocational Training Assistance (Berufsausbildungsbeihilfe), as they are obligated under maintenance law to financially support their children during their first training (Ausbildung).

Spouse's Income

The income of the spouse is considered in the calculation of Vocational Training Assistance (Berufsausbildungsbeihilfe) since they are legally obligated to financially support the trainee.

Asset Limits

For receiving Vocational Training Allowance (BAB), there are asset limits. The trainee's assets are considered in the calculation, with certain exemptions remaining uncounted.
