Amount of Monthly Disbursement
The amount of the monthly Bafög disbursement is determined individually and depends on the overall needs of the applicant. The total needs consist of the basic needs, housing allowance, and possible additional payments. The calculable income of the applicant, as well as the income and assets of the parents, are deducted from the determined total needs. The remaining amount forms the monthly disbursement.
Consistent Payments During the Approval Period
The monthly disbursement is made in consistent amounts throughout the entire approval period, which usually lasts twelve months. During this period, the amount of the disbursement remains constant unless there are significant changes in the personal or financial circumstances of the applicant that necessitate a recalculation.
Requirements for Disbursement
For the monthly disbursement of Bafög, the application must be completely submitted and approved. All necessary documents regarding the vocational training, the income and assets of the applicant, as well as those of the parents, must be presented to the responsible office for training support. The first disbursement only occurs after the approval of the application.
Direct Transfer to the Account
The monthly disbursement of Bafög is made through a direct transfer to the bank account specified by the applicant. The applicant is required to provide the training support office with a valid bank account. Changes to the bank account must be reported in a timely manner to avoid interruptions in the disbursement.
Use of the Monthly Funding
The monthly Bafög disbursement is earmarked for the coverage of ongoing living expenses during the vocational training (Ausbildung). This includes expenses for rent, food, teaching materials, as well as health and long-term care insurance. The regular disbursement is intended to ensure that trainees can fully concentrate on their vocational training without constantly worrying about their financial situation.
Interruption of Disbursement
The disbursement of Bafög can be interrupted if significant requirements for funding are no longer met. Examples include the termination of the vocational training (Ausbildung), a change of training location, or exceeding the age limit. In such cases, funding is temporarily suspended until the requirements are once again met or it is clarified whether there is still a claim to Bafög.
Special Regulations for Recalculation
If significant changes in the income or asset situation of the applicant or their parents occur during the approval period, the office for training support may perform a recalculation of the funding. In such cases, the monthly funding amount will be adjusted accordingly, which may lead to both an increase and a decrease in the monthly disbursement.
