Training Status

Training Status (Ausbildungsstatus) as a Prerequisite for Child Benefits to Finance Vocational Training (Ausbildung) in Germany 2025

The entitlement to child benefits during the vocational training (Ausbildung) only exists if the trainee is in a supported vocational training (Ausbildung). This includes dual and school-based vocational trainings as well as other recognized training types.

Dual Education

The entitlement to child benefit exists during a dual education (dualer Ausbildung) until the completion of the 25th year of life. The dual education (duale Ausbildung) combines practical work with theoretical instruction at vocational school and is considered a subsidizable type of education (Ausbildung).

School-based Training

The entitlement to child benefit exists during a school-based training (Ausbildung) until the completion of the 25th year of age, provided that it is a recognized vocational training (Ausbildung). A second school-based training (Ausbildung) is supported if the trainee does not work more than 20 hours per week alongside it.

Dual Study Program

The claim to child benefits exists during a dual study program until the age of 25, as it is recognized as the first Vocational Training (Ausbildung). The prerequisite is that the studies are conducted at an accredited university and a vocationally qualifying degree is pursued.

Waiting Time

The entitlement to child benefit exists during a waiting time between graduation and the start of vocational training (Ausbildung), provided that the waiting time does not exceed four months and a vocational training (Ausbildung) position is already secured or actively sought.

Second Vocational Training

The entitlement to child benefit exists during second vocational training (Ausbildung) until the completion of the 25th year of life, provided the trainee does not engage in extensive employment that includes more than 20 hours per week alongside the second vocational training (Ausbildung).

Suspension

The claim for child benefit remains during a temporary suspension of vocational training (Ausbildung), as long as the trainee is still considered to be in vocational training (Ausbildung). This is especially true in cases of illness, maternity leave, or other recognized reasons.
