National Funding Programs
Among the most important national programs is the training bonus, which supports companies that create additional training positions or take over training companies from insolvencies. Additionally, there is the “Education Credit” program, which allows trainees to obtain low-interest loans to cover their training costs.
State-Level Support
Each federal state offers its own programs to promote vocational training (Ausbildung). For example, Bavaria has the “Fit for Work” program, which provides companies with subsidies that train disadvantaged youth. In North Rhine-Westphalia, there is the “Course to Training” program, which specifically targets young people with a migration background.
Industry-Specific Funding
Many industry associations offer specific programs to promote vocational training (Ausbildung) in their sector. For instance, in the metal and electrical industry, there is the “M+E Funding Program,” which supports training companies by providing them with grants and consulting services. The chambers of crafts also offer industry-specific funding aimed at strengthening small and medium-sized businesses.
Support from Chambers and Associations
Chambers of crafts and the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) offer programs to support training enterprises. These range from consulting services to financial grants. Chambers also often organize projects to integrate refugees and youth without school qualifications into the job market through training measures.
Support for Disadvantaged Youth
Young people facing social or financial difficulties can benefit from special support programs. The “Assisted Training” program is aimed at helping young people find a training position and successfully complete their vocational training (Ausbildung). In many cases, this measure is also supported by regional employment agencies.
Grants for International Stays
For trainees wishing to complete part of their vocational training (Ausbildung) abroad, there are special funding programs. The “Training Worldwide” program of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) promotes international internships and exchange programs. Companies that send their trainees abroad receive grants for travel expenses and preparation measures.
Skilled Labor Needs in Structurally Weak Regions
In regions with particularly high skilled labor demand, there are specific funding programs to motivate young people to take up vocational training (Ausbildung) in these areas. The “JOBSTARTER” program promotes projects in structurally weak regions aimed at increasing training participation and countering the shortage of skilled labor.
Promotion of Further Education for Trainees
To provide trainees with additional qualifications, many sectors offer specific further education programs. These programs often target trainees in their final training year, giving them the opportunity to advance their skills in specific areas. Examples include the “Upgrading BAföG” and industry-specific programs from the IHK and chambers of crafts.
