Change Training Company

Vocational Training Assistance (Berufsausbildungsbeihilfe) when Changing the Training Company for Financing Vocational Training (Ausbildung) in Germany 2025

A change of the training company during the receipt of vocational training assistance (BAB) for financing vocational training (Ausbildung) must be reported to the Employment Agency immediately, as this can affect the amount of support. The BAB benefits can continue to be granted if the dual training is continued.

Entitlement to BAB when Changing the Training Company

Even after changing the training company, there is generally still entitlement to vocational training assistance, as long as the training in the new company is continued in the same or a comparable recognized vocational training profession. The Employment Agency checks whether the conditions for the funding are still met.

Required Notification of the Change

A change of the training company must be reported to the responsible Employment Agency immediately. The notification should be made in writing and include the following documents:

  • Copy of the new training contract
  • Notification certificate if the residency has changed
  • Proof of the new vocational training compensation (Ausbildungsvergütung)

Timely reporting is important to ensure a seamless continuation of the BAB benefits.

Changes in the Calculation of BAB Benefits

Changing the training company may lead to changes in the calculation of the BAB, particularly if:

  • the amount of vocational training compensation in the new company differs,
  • a move was necessary and living costs have changed,
  • the daily commuting distance between residence and training location has become longer or shorter.

In such cases, the BAB benefits will be recalculated, taking into account the changed income and need situations.

No Entitlement in Case of Training Termination

If the training is completely terminated due to the change and no new training is undertaken, the entitlement to BAB ends. A new application is required if a new training is started at a later date.

Funding During the Transition Period

If there is a short transition period between the termination of the old training and the start of the new training, the BAB benefits may still be paid under certain conditions. The requirement is that the time between the two training relationships does not exceed four months.

Important Notes

Apprentices should contact the Employment Agency early when planning to change the training company to clarify potential impacts on the BAB benefits. Timely reporting and submission of all required documents are crucial to avoid interruptions in payment.
