Important Documents for Application Submission
To apply for child benefit during vocational training (Ausbildung), various documents must be submitted to the family benefits office to verify eligibility. The following documents are required:
Birth Certificate
The birth certificate serves as proof of the trainee’s identity. It is required when the application is submitted for the first time or if there are changes in the family situation.
Tax Identification Number
Both the child’s and the applicant’s (usually a parent’s) tax identification numbers must be provided. This number is legally required for the disbursement of child benefits.
Vocational Training Certificate (Ausbildungsbescheinigung)
A vocational training certificate (Ausbildungsbescheinigung) from the training institution is required to prove the training status. This certificate must specify the start date, expected duration, and type of training. It needs to be renewed regularly, especially during longer training periods.
Registration Certificate
The registration certificate of the trainee and the applicant is needed to prove residency and habitual residence. This proof is important as the entitlement to child benefits is linked to residency in Germany.
Proof of Independent Household Management
If the trainee is to receive child benefits directly because they no longer live in the parental household, proof of independent household management must be provided. This includes rental agreements or a registration certificate of their own residence.
Additional Documents for Waiting Periods or Interruptions
If the trainee is in a waiting period between graduation and the start of vocational training (Ausbildung) or if the training is interrupted (e.g., due to illness or parental leave), additional documents are required, such as:
- Confirmation of a secured training place
- Medical certificate for prolonged illness
- Certificate from the training company regarding the planned continuation of the training (Ausbildung)
